It was a world pretty unknown to me, a world of glamor, of drinks and of dance. Does it sound like I’m some alien just landed on earth, just some out of a freaking spaceship? Well then you are the one for the ambiance I am talking about. It’s the pub-world. Recently I had a chance to visit a pub and cover a DJ competition that was supposed to ‘rock the city’. Yeah, that’s what they are to do, get you to groove, get the rhythm speak and entrance you into something divine, the ‘rhythm divine’
As I said earlier this was my first visit to a pub and it was different, I should say. The first thing that struck me was a hefty (believe me he could grab anyone by the collar and throw It) looking man at the entrance. The bouncer as he is called was 6.2 feet tall, and it clearly showed what it meant to get bounced away by him. Anyway, I got an entry Qinto the pub. Just behind the glass door was a whole new world. The organizer ushered me in and introduced to a girl called Arpana (I called her Aparna everytime we spoke) and said that I can ask her if I need anything. I was wondering what I need anyway.
The party began and eyes were glued to the arena where the DJs were to lock horns. The drinks were flowing and the crowd started dancing. Each rhythm evoked a different sort of dance from them. As I didn’t know to dance, I started feeling like a fish out of water. A bit awkward.
The setting was semi-dark with lots of ambient lights. The atmosphere was exciting and I was trying hard to adjust to it and not make people feel that this guy has dropped in from nowhere. The music was loud, well calling it loud is just an understatement. The crowd was young mostly in their 20s with men dressed in jeans and t-shirt and women in one piece (mostly noodle straps). Now if you ask me about the girl population I would say, there were many, more than you can count. They were dancing, generally moving their bodies to the beats and getting cozy with their partners once a while, a refrain I thought. This dance I understood could be termed ‘dirty dance’ as once my friend had explained to me. Well, there nothing dirty about dirty dance, its just a bit more than a sensual piece.
DJs were up there doing their best and here was I understanding not a bit of what they were playing. I apologize as I have always been into Indian music and know almost nothing of what are the latest trends in western or global music. So I went up to one of the participants and spoke to him to know what he had just palyed. House, Techno and Trance, he said.
However, I had to rush as had some hurry to reach home. I couldn’t see the entire show. The party was over for me and I was back to my normal life.
